Ophthanology

Dr. Brian Shafer is a cataract, refractive, cornea, and glaucoma surgeon serving patients in the Chester County and Main Line area. He entered medicine to encourage meaningful improvements to each patient’s quality of life by providing the eye care they need and deserve. As a patient, you can anticipate receiving his utmost attention as he listens to your goals and determines how he can best guide you to achieve them.

During his fellowship, Dr. Shafer completed thousands of vision-correcting procedures, corneal transplants, and glaucoma surgeries while learning from pioneers of refractive surgery. He is actively involved in research and has been an investigator on dozens of clinical trials. In addition, he regularly publishes research studies and articles and is actively involved in writing textbook chapters. Dr. Shafer is passionate about education and volunteers his time at the Scheie Eye Institute’s resident clinic to teach the next generation of ophthalmologists.

  • Internship in Internal Medicine at Pennsylvania Hospital

  • Ophthalmology Residency at Scheie Eye Institute

  • Fellowship in Cornea, Refractive, Glaucoma, and Anterior Segment Surgery from Vance Thompson Vision
